I have previously posted that I couldnt understand how the giant runway centreline worked and asked if you could set it for the runway you were using. I was told it was automatic. I have to say that having flown into a few airfields today I really think that is a mistake!

Now every post on here I say how great SkyDemon is and I am a huge fan but as an ex PocketFMS user I have to say that was better in this area in that you could select the runway that you were going to fly to and it would show extended lines to that runway no matter which way you are coming from.

Please can we have the feature so we can choose the runway. I really think the automatic thing is a big mistake. You nearly always know miles out which runway you are using so even if it was automatic to start with an option to set the correct runway would be great.

Please?

Sounds a great idea to me. Any update from the team on this one. Sorry to moan but I think it is not great how it is.

Seeing that we are visiting the extended centre line, could we have it also divided into mile segments so that we can judge graphically how far we want to intercept? I know we can judge from the pseudo DME to threshold & from the line extending from the aeroplane´s nose, but graphic display on the extended centre line marked with decreasing distance makes it much easier to interpret. (I can imagine Tim & Co thoughts: Hey lads, is there an end to your demands in sight or the sky is the limit?)

For us to consider changing the way this works, a clear case would have to be made of the benefits of doing so.

Let's take an example: I am heading east, getting closer to my destination airfield which has 09/27 runway. Runway 09 extended centreline is visible, but I establish over the radio that 27 is in use. As I fly around to the other side, SkyDemon automatically changes to show me 27. What advantages are there to telling it to display 27 before I get there?

Aside from my point I raised above I feel neutral about the choice of landing runway. However, I can see some pros and cons. For instance, it is NICE to have the facility of manual choice from the outset, especially when approaching a field with more than one runway. Here, one could choose the active runway well ahead, rather than have extended centre lines springing in and out of their own accord, which can be a little unsettling at times. I must admit I am a staunch proponent of automation. Automation (i.e. for status quo this time) is advantageous, should there be a late change of the active runway. Here the facility of runway display changing automatically would be greatly appreciated when there is no need to fiddle with the touch screen and potentially inviting errors, in a busy phase of the flight.

I have to disagree. Properly implemented which of course it would be Smile it would not be the least bit difficult to click on the runway and click select another runway. I much prefer it manually as it would help you to align yourself for the runway you know 20 miles out that you are landing at. It is extremely rare that the runway changes in the last critical phase of a flight and if you go into a field with 6 runways it changes way too late to be useful currently. How about as a concession that it is automatic but that you can click on it once it appears and "select another runway" which would last until that waypoint is reached. Surely that's the best of both worlds?

Actually that's probably a better solution than my manual suggestion. Auto first then an override.

Is there no further comment on this one. Should I stop banging on about it. I can't see how a manual override would in any way spoil the current automatic function. It would just add a bit more flexibility to runways were they are close together such as 28 and 31 at Blackpool. For most of the approach to the airfield it is showing an extended centreline to 31 when I know I will be going to 28. Being able to say I know I am actually going to 28 would helpy you line up immensely and I agree with the previous comment about mile markers too. That would be lovely.

I promise I won't post any more comments on this but I really think it would be a very good improvement for the airfields with 6 or 8 runways.
